Sometimes a glimpse is all that it takes.
Some of the Romantic authors… it seems as if they were on to something, about Nature being a source of spiritual or near-spiritual refreshing. I’m a city girl in flatland. I’ve hardly seen woods, or mountains, up close and personal in my life. But times like today…
I can be so tired, and frustrated, and just feeling like everything’s wrong and nothing’s worth my attention, and then the right gleam of light while I’m out walking—and a neighbors garden and gold sun-gilding on a rooftop, yellow swaths through dark shadows and wet diamonds on the grass make everything right again. It’s like a finger of joy piercing though my mind, telling me that whatever it is that’s got me down, there’s still something to smile about. And then I hear the birds singing, and I wonder if they were singing before, when I wasn’t noticing.
Even Dr. Frankenstein’s monster cheered up when the birds sang.
